The Gospel of Jesus Christ
Know the message entrusted to us: the holy God, human sin, Christ’s cross and resurrection, and the call to repent and believe.
The short answer
The gospel is the good news that the holy and loving God has acted to save sinners through Jesus Christ. Jesus died for our sins, was buried, rose bodily from the dead, and reigns as Lord. God commands all people to repent and believe; everyone who trusts Christ receives forgiveness, new life, the Holy Spirit, and reconciliation with God by grace.

Step by step
1. God is holy, loving, and King
The gospel begins with God. He created all things, made us for His glory, loves the world, and rightly rules every life. We are accountable to Him.
- Begin with who God is
- Speak of His holiness and love
- Show that life belongs under His rule
2. All have sinned
Humanity has rejected God’s rule. Sin is rebellion that brings guilt, death, and separation from God. No moral effort can make us righteous before Him.
- Name sin honestly
- Include yourself among those needing mercy
- Do not offer self-improvement as salvation
3. Jesus died and rose
The eternal Son became man, lived without sin, died in the place of sinners, and rose victorious. At the cross, God displayed justice and mercy. The resurrection declares Jesus Lord.

- Proclaim the bodily resurrection
- Announce Jesus as living Lord
4. Repent, believe, and follow
The gospel calls for a response. Repentance turns from sin and self-rule toward God; faith rests in Jesus and His finished work. We bow to Him as Lord and follow Him.

- Explain grace rather than religious earning
- Call people to follow Jesus
5. Receive new life
Those united to Christ are forgiven, adopted, filled with the Spirit, and brought into His people. Salvation creates a new life of worship, holiness, witness, and hope.

- Point toward discipleship

Common questions
Is the gospel mainly about becoming better?
No. It announces what God has done in Christ to save sinners who cannot save themselves. Good works are fruit of salvation, never its price.
Why is the resurrection essential?
If Christ has not been raised, Christian faith is empty. His resurrection confirms His victory, lordship, and the believer’s living hope.
What does repentance mean?
Repentance is a Spirit-enabled turning of mind, heart, and direction—from sin and self-rule to God. It belongs with faith in Jesus.
How simply can I explain the gospel?
God made and rules us; we have sinned; Jesus died for our sins and rose; He commands us to repent, believe, and follow Him.
